The Toronto Marlies took game 8 of the Battle of Ontario, defeating the Belleville Senators 4-3 on Friday night at CAA Arena.
Tyler Kleven, Rourke Chartier, and Angus Crookshank scored for the Senators.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first period, but Belleville broke the deadlock in the second with a pair of early goals before Toronto struck back with three of their own. The Senators tied the game again midway through the third on a power play but the Marlies came back for one last goal to retake the lead and win the game.
Belleville Sens forward Josh Currie said that the team played well overall, despite stumbling in the second.
“I thought we had a solid game except for five minutes in the second. We kind of let up and stopped playing, and against a team like that, they’re going to make you pay,” said Currie. “They also have a great power play and we have to stay out of the box. They had, I think three power play goals on us, and that was kind of the game.”
The Belleville Senators are on the road to Utica, to face the Comets tonight at 7 o’clock.
