Quinte News spoke to the Member of Parliament for the Bay of Quinte riding, in our Year in Review
He says the cost of living and of housing are the two biggest issues of 2023.
“Housing is such a big problem now that we have doubled our homelessness in this region, and it’s very apparent.”
He says a drugs and addictions issue goes hand in hand with homelessness.
“I don’t know if Picton or Quinte West, in the last 30/40 years, have actually seen visible homelessness and now it’s there. That’s just the result of all the bigger issues that we have going on.”
“The carbon tax which is adding up to $1,000 per household after the rebate. It’s adding to the grocery bill, it’s adding to almost every bill that people have and it’s becoming quite unaffordable. We’re looking at affordability as a whole.”
He finished by indicating that infrastructure, the military, and the international conflicts, were the largest issues over the past 12 months.
