Quinte News talked with Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini about 2023.
Piccini says getting people in homes, along with affordability, were the two main concerns.
He says the province has a major role to play.
“Certainly the province is looking at surplus property, looking at ways to reduce red tape, streamline development. We need municipalities and our municipal partners to work with us and they are, to reduce those barriers, and permitting length, and timelines, so we can increase housing supply.”
Piccini switched his roles as a minister from Environment, Conservation and Parks to Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
He stated currently there are jobs without people and people without jobs, and increasing the housing supply is an important part of that.
He says infrastructure across the riding was a major focus this past year and that will not change
“Some of the bridge work we’ve done in Brighton, the Hastings watermain and expansion, talking about expanding that in Campbellford as well. Waste water is going to feature prominently at ROMA (Rural Ontario Municipal Association) for Brighton without question.”
On infrastructure, Piccini says the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund is a vital tool for municipalities to work on large projects.
The program LIFT or Low-Income Individuals and Families Tax Credit allows people making under $50,000 annually to not pay provincial income tax.
