It’s been a busy year of infrastructure construction for Brighton in 2023.
Brighton Mayor Brian Ostrander shared with Quinte News some of the projects that he thought were the most impactful.
One of those projects was reconstruction of the roads into the industrial park.
“We finished the roadway, the reconstruction of the roadway into the industrial park and as part of that reconstruction, we added some infrastructure so that we can move our bulk water station which is currently in a residential area of the community,” said Mayor Ostrander. “We wanted out of the residential area obviously because of those large trucks and into more industrial area.”
Construction of the bulk water station was delayed due to an archeological discovery, but it is expected to be online in 2024.
Another major achievement during the year was the start of the Main Street watermain replacement project, a project with a value of $3 million.
“We also started with the help of the province and the federal government a huge watermain replacement project on the west side of Main Street over where the new developments are happening and the big retirement centre,” said Mayor Ostrander. “So we’re going to have a new watermain from the health centre all the way to the edge of the built boundary.”
Work on the new watermain is ongoing, and expected to be completed in the new year.
