With gas-powered vehicles now on a path to being phased out over the next several years, Centre Hastings is looking to the future.
Council is supporting a staff recommendation to apply for grants through Aviva Canada’s Charged for Change and the EV ChargeON programs to bring electric vehicle charging stations to the municipality.
Director of Finance Alexander Kelly tells Quinte News that the infrastructure is needed. Centre Hastings is located on Highway 7, a major corridor between Torotno and Ottawa and is the largest urban centre between the City of Belleville and Town of Bancroft.
He says this would help promote tourism and economic development in Centre Hastings.
Kelly adds if they are successful with the applications, a future staff report will provide recommendations on where EV charging stations should be placed throughout the municipality.
