Members of the Arrow Trail project continued pitching for the municipalities’ support.
Chris Palmer, Supervisor of Museum & Cultural Services, delivered a delegation to Quinte West City Council asking for the city’s support on the Arrow Trail Project.
Arrow Trail is a driving route that links Belleville, Quinte West and Prince Edward County, commemorating the Avro Arrow, an experimental aircraft that was developed in the 1950s but was cancelled by the Diefenbaker government before it could enter service.
It was said to be faster than any jet of its kind and reached speeds nearly twice the speed of sound.
The trail looks to link several locations to where people can learn more about the Avro Arrow and its part in Canadian history.
Among one of the planned stops would be the Air and Space Museum in Quinte West.
The plan is to launch the trail sometime in late 2024, coinciding with the 100 year anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force.
At this time, the group is only seeking support from council and there was no request for money.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison thanked the group for their presentation and encouraged them to seek grants to help with future financial requests.
The group has already spoken to Prince Edward County council, with county council directing its staff to seek support for the project from Belleville and Quinte West as well as work with other municipalities on next year’s launch.
