The project to build a new long term care home to replace the aging H.J. McFarland home has run into some delays, which could set progress back six months.
During Thursday’s committee of the whole meeting, councilors heard a report from the project managers for the long term care home, which outlined current construction progress. During their presentation, they relayed how there was an issue with a concrete transfer slab that required the slab be removed and re-poured, which has caused problems with the rest of the construction project. Replacing the slab was estimated to cause a six month total delay, and could prevent the new home from opening in summer of 2027 as planned.
The project managers are working on a plan to try and get construction back on schedule for the original July 2027 completion date, but did not have details on what it would take to get the project back on schedule yet.
While there are significant delays to the project, it does remain on-budget, with only 10% of contingency funding used for unexpected expenses.
The committee voted to accept the report, but did not take any other action at this time
