Quinte West council is being asked again to immediately build at least a temporary sidewalk with lighting on a stretch of 2nd Dug Hill Road in the area of Trenton Christian School that was the scene of a fatal hit and run collision last month.
Diane Lyndon presented an ongoing petition with over 2,100 signatures to Quinte West council Wednesday morning.
” Sidewalks should be mandatory when subdivisions are in the planning stages. It has already been well established that without sidewalks and lighting that road is unsafe. It is unreasonable to expect people to remain off the road until 2025 and this must come down to the safety of the citizens NOW!”
Fourteen -year-old Seryn Lazzaro was hit by a vehicle while walking on 2nd Dug Hill Road with a friend on the evening of November 17. She died soon after in a Toronto hospital.
Lyndon asked that council include the sidewalk and lighting in next year’s budget adding, “Be the council and mayor of a city that cares.”
Quinte West council began the first phase of 2024 budget discussions Wednesday.
