Belleville firefighters not only managed to keep damage to a minimum at a fire at an apartment building Saturday night, they did so in dramatic fashion.
Around 9:30 p.m. Belleville Fire and Emergency Services were called to an apartment fire at 104 Cannifton Road in the area of College Street East.
Using a ladder, firefighters managed to get five people safely out of the apartment and to the ground including one person who was hanging out of a second floor window. A dog was also rescued.
Four people had to be taken to hospital by Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services for treatment of smoke inhalation.
Fire damage was contained to just the one unit on the second floor of the three-storey building.
An investigation continues.
