The warming centres in Belleville and Quinte West should be open tomorrow night (Friday December 1).
At its meeting Thursday, Hastings County council approved opening those centres two weeks
earlier than originally planned.
The change in opening dates was made following a motion made by Belleville councillor Sean
Kelly which was unanimously supported by council recently.
Bancroft’s warming centre is not quite ready to open but it will have extra days added at the end
of the season.
Belleville’s warming centre is located at the former police station on Dundas Street East while Quinte West’s facility
will be at Trenton United Church.
The warming centres will be open from 8 p.m. until 8 a.m. seven days a week.
The cost to open all three centres for fourteen days more will be $70,000 with each community being billed by Hastings County according to population.
