Below is a weather advisory from Environment Canada issued at 4:46 a.m. Wednesday.
A winter weather travel advisory is in effect beginning early this afternoon.
Hazards: Local snowfall accumulations of 5 to 10 cm. Poor visibility at times in bursts of heavier snow and blowing snow. Timing: This afternoon and evening.
Discussion: Lake effect snow off Lake Ontario will move into the area early this afternoon. Strong winds gusting up to 60 km/h may result in significantly reduced visibility at times in heavier snow and blowing snow. Portions of Highway 401 will be affected. Conditions should improve this evening. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
