Firefighters remain at the scene of a general alarm fire that started around 11 o’clock Sunday night in downtown Belleville.
Fire gutted the building slated to be torn down as part of a condominium development on the former Hotel Quinte property.
As of 2 o’clock Monday morning, flames were still shooting through the roof.
Deputy Chief Mark Shannon tells Quinte News it will be some time before it’s known if anyone was inside the building.
“It hasn’t had power in the building for quite some time, it’s vacant other than possibly some homeless people. We haven’t been able to make entry yet to make sure that it’s completely empty so at this time there’s still a possibility there could be people inside.”
