The number of homeless people in Hastings County, most of them being in Belleville, has increased over the past three months.
At its meeting Wednesday, Hastings County’s Community and Human Services Committee will see a report showing that at least 166 people in the county were homeless as of the end of September.
That’s nearly 50 people more than at the end of June.
Of the 166 homeless, 114 people are listed as chronically homeless meaning they’ve been without a place to live for six months or longer.
In the last three months, 42 people were added to the chronically homeless list while only 14 people were able to find housing in one form or another.
