Impaired Driving and Drive while Suspended
On November 2, 2023 at 12 a.m., a Belleville police officer conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Adam Street and Lahr Drive. The driver of the vehicle was a suspended driver. The officer also noted the driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested. Following an investigation, 31-year-old Kelvin Cooley of Belleville was charged with impaired operation, operating with 80 plus mg of alcohol and driving while suspended. He was released on an undertaking with a December court date.
Drive while Disqualified and Breach of Probation
On November 2, 2023 at 1 a.m., Belleville police stopped a vehicle on Cascade Boulevard which was driving with no headlights on. The driver was found to be disqualified from driving in Canada for life. Additionally, he was currently on probation. As a result of the investigation, 50-year-old Robert Tandy of Belleville was charged with driving while prohibited and breaching his probation. He was released on an undertaking with a December court date.
Traffic stop results in Highway Traffic Act charges
On November 1, 2023 at 9:30 p.m., a Belleville police officer conducted a vehicle stop on North Front Street regarding a potential suspended driver. Following the stop, the officer confirmed the licence suspension was still in effect. Further investigation by the officer revealed that the plates did not match the vehicle and the ownership had not been changed over to the new owner. As a result of the investigation, the 47-year-old driver was charged with driving while suspended, using plates not authorized for the vehicle and failing to apply for a permit for the vehicle upon taking ownership. The driver was issued three summons and given a December traffic court date.
