An inquest into the death of an inmate from the Quinte Detention Centre has been set for late November.
Hendrik Pieter Ryskamp, 31, died in hospital March 18, 2019 after being found unresponsive at the correctional facility in Napanee.
Barry Samuel Kerlovich of Napanee was charged with manslaughter, as well as possessing and trafficking an opioid other than heroin, in connection with Ryskamp’s death.
In 2021, Kerlovich pleaded guilty to possession for the purpose of trafficking and was sentenced to one day with time served.
He also has a lifetime weapons prohibition and provided DNA to be held in a federal database.
The inquest which is mandatory under the Coroners Act, will begin Monday, November 20 in Kingston and is expected to last seven days and hear from approximately eight witnesses.
