The Belleville Senators opened up their brief two-game pre-season with a loss to the Toronto Marlies on Friday.
The Marlies slipped past the Sens 2-1 in overtime to win the afternoon game.
While both teams had some back and forth in the first period, neither team could seal the deal and get on the scoreboard until Angus Crookshank opened scoring in the second frame, giving the Sens their first and only goal of the game. Two minutes later, the Marlies tied the score and with neither team able to pull ahead, the game went to overtime before the Marlies managed to grab a second goal to take home the win.
Belleville Senators Head Coach David Bell said the team worked hard.
“The effort was there. There wasn’t a lot of flow with all of the power plays and penalty kills and then in overtime, that’s what happens. The other team gets a break and capitalizes and we got our looks, but they didn’t go in.”
There is one more pre-season game on the docket for the Belleville Senators, where the Sens will travel to face the Laval Rocket on Sunday at 1 p.m.
