The search for a missing sailing vessel and its elderly operator in the Pickering area has been suspended.
The 87-year-old Pickering man boarded his boat at Frenchman’s Bay Marina on Friday and has not been seen since.
A 424 Squadron Hercules aircraft and a Griffon helicopter joined Durham Region police and Canadian Coast Guard vessels to look for the boat, however, after a thorough search, Trenton’s Joint Rescue Coordination centre made the difficult decision to suspend that search.
The area where the vessel had been operating was thoroughly searched, but no sign of the vessel or its occupant was found.
The matter has been turned over to police as a missing person case.
