A former Vice-Principal at Brighton’s East Northumberland Secondary School can no longer teach in Ontario after pleading no contest at an Ontario College of Teachers disciplinary hearing Tuesday.
According to Northumberland News, Keith Piette did not contest the facts presented about an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student, a girl under the age of 18 when the incidents occurred in 2020.
A police investigation into the relationship was conducted but concluded there was not enough evidence to lay criminal charges.
Piette was fired by the Kawartha Pine Ridge School Board in May of 2021 after admitting he had lied about the relationship. The student herself eventually admitted the relationship to ENSS staff.
Allegations against Piette included drinking alcohol with the student and encouraging marijuana use, requesting the student to provide cocaine for him, requesting/receiving naked photos, and having sex with the student at his residence.
