The decision must still be approved by Ontario Command but it appears Branch 99 of the Royal Canadian Legion Belleville has found a new home.
Media was not welcome at Monday night’s meeting where Branch 99 members voted on moving to a new location.
But a source to Quinte News says members voted 65-5 in favour of moving to the now vacant former Belleville and District Shrine Club building on Highland Avenue.
The source says it will be a five year lease and while the Legion will not pay rent, it will be responsible for paying utilities and maintenance.
The City of Belleville, which owns the current Legion building, has given the organization until the end of the year to find a new location.
Ontario Command is expected to approve or deny the deal soon.
