With this year’s United Way fundraising campaign kickoff less than two days away, the organization is excited about what’s to come.
The kickoff breakfast, where this year’s campaign total will be revealed, is Thursday and there will be several other events over the coming weeks.
Director of Community Relations Jennifer Smith says one of them is this weekend when the Ontario Public Service’s Annual Bike 4 United Way makes it way through Prince Edward County.
“We will see riders from communities across our region, Ontario Public Service employees who are riding for their local United Way, rolling into our area and then heading out on a very strenuous route in support of our community.”
Smith says the event has raised thousands of dollars for the Hastings Prince Edward organization.
The event kicks off at Zwick’s Park Saturday morning followed by a two-day ride through the County.
This year’s campaign total will be revealed Thursday.
Smith says there are several events to come and so many ways to participate.
“We will be holding once again a virtual auction this year. And we have another couple of surprises that are happening this fall that I can’t disclose. But whether people are considering by making a donation or really looking to get involved in the work of the United Way by engaging or volunteering, there really is an option for everyone this year.”
She calls the need for the United Way higher than ever.
Just over $2.1 million was raised in last year’s campaign supporting dozens of local agencies.
