Veteran journalist and author Peter C. Newman has died at the age of 94 from complications related to a stroke he had last year.
Newman who had been living in Belleville for several years, passed away in hospital this morning.
Newman served as editor-in-chief of the Toronto Star and Maclean’s, but is also being remembered for his books that publisher HarperCollins says earned him the informal title of Canada’s “most cussed and discussed commentator.”
Newman came to Canada in 1940 from Vienna as a Jewish refugee and said he became a writer because as a refugee, he wanted to gain a voice and be heard.
