Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward has announced that former board chair Donna Endicott has unexpectedly passed away.
Endicott served as a board chair for HSHPE from 2016 to early 2023.
In a release, HSHPE credits her with rebranding the organization and building a new shelter.
“Donna was a remarkable and dynamic individual who was very passionate about animal welfare and not afraid to speak her mind,” commented current HSHPE board chair Greg Sudds in a release.
“She provided guidance, wisdom and a fierce determination to get a new forever home built for the neglected and abused animals in our region, for this we are all forever grateful.”
According to a release, Endicott was a nurse by training. She moved back to the region after retiring as regional director for the Canadian Red Cross (Toronto Region) in 2000.
As a Canadian Red Cross delegate, Endicott was deployed for earthquake relief to Armenia (1988), Relief Administration in South Sudan (1989) and the American Red Cross during Hurricane Andrew’s devastation in 1992.
Endicott is survived by her husband Rensford (Butch) Nobes, son David and his wife Laura and granddaughter Rachel and dog Bailey, a dog the couple adopted from HSHPE.
