Quinte West City Council has approved a loan extension to the Kiwanis Club.
The interest-free loan was given to the club in 2020 for the Kiwanis Walleye World fishing derby.
In a letter to council, the club was able to pay of $10,000 of the $32,000 loan but still owes the city $22,000.
The derby returned for 2023 but the club said that a three-year hiatus, increased cost of fuel, and an increased cost of living led to low registered participants this year.
The extension will now give the Kiwanis Club an additional year (May 31, 2024) to pay back the loan in full.
