The City of Belleville has announced the designation of 10 new Community Safety Zones (CSZ) to the area.
Community Safety Zones are to be used on “parts of a roadway” where public safety is of special concern to a community, the city says in a release.
“All rules of the road remain unchanged, however there are increases to the fines for moving violations that occur within a CSZ. As such, by-laws have been updated and the appropriate on-street signage (as listed in OTM Book 5) has been installed.”
The 10 community safety zones are designated in the following areas:
- Victoria Avenue from Humewood Drive to Park Lane
- Palmer Road from Bridge Street West to Dundas Street West
- Harder Drive from Avondale Road to Palmer Road
- Sidney Street from Moira Street West to Bridge Street West
- Cannifton Road from College Street East to Bell Boulevard/Adam Street
- Sidney Street from Tracey Street to College Street West
- Harmony Road from Highway 37 to 449 Harmony Rd.
- Dundas Street East from George Street to First Street
- Ashley Street from Ducette Road to Old Madoc Road
- College Street East from North Front Street to Cannifton Road
The zones were developed through a process to “meet the needs of our community with consideration of a number of factors including: proximity to school zones, community centres, senior centres and/or parks and playgrounds, pedestrian traffic levels and collision ratios, lanes of traffic, among other factors.”
