The Belleville Chamber of Commerce is outlining three special weekends coming up in July.
They start on Saturday, Canada Day, with West Zwick’s Park opening with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, followed by a flyover and music throughout the day.
Next Thursday, July 6, launches the four-day Belleville Waterfront Multicultural Festival.
And then, weekend three features the World’s Finest caravan of rides, July 13 to 16.
You can see the full outline below:
WEEKEND 1
Saturday, July 1: Canada Day
The park opens at 9:30 with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast but the real fun begins at 11 a.m. at the main stage at West Zwick’s with everyone’s family favourite songster, Andy Forgie. Following the flyover and opening ceremonies, the stage rocks all day long with local talent including Big Black Smoke, The FarSide, Freddy Vette & His Rhinestone Plowboys, Mad Hatter & Maple Drive.
There are free shows and attractions throughout the park, but don’t miss out on performances from the Hot Diggity Dogs, Tom Bishop & Wild Wild West, the Great Canadian Lumberjacks and new this year – Classic Championship Wrestling. Bring your own dog and run them through the DogLovers Days lure course ($5/run). Buskers are also everywhere including Giraffe Family and there will be kiddie train rides, a Hula Hoop Fun Zone, balloons and face painting until 7 p.m.
And of course, there is food. Pop-Ups on the Bay will be available and Beavertails, Burger Revolution and Squeezy Lemonade will be brought in. Other local favourites include Pink Funnel, Duffer’s and The Binge Box.
Free shuttles will be available from the Quinte Mall (by the new Winners location).
$5 parking on site.
WEEKEND 2
Thursday, July 6 – Sunday, July 9: Belleville Waterfront Multicultural Festival
Belleville has been celebrating cultural diversity within the region for 45 years. It’s always been about the food at West Zwick’s but this year’s festival will showcase more about the cultures here through music, dance, crafts and activities. Multicultural pavilions hosted by the Jalgua Peace Festival and local volunteers will be offering experiences that share in ways that will help teach us more about the people around us. There is something different every day so while you’re planning your food journey, there’s lot to do between meals.
More than 12 countries are represented in the Redpath Multicultural Food Village and the Pop-Ups on the Bay including Poland, China, India, Italy, Portugal, Mexico, Thailand, Jamaica, Syria, Greece, Cuba and the Philippines. The Pop-Ups have SouvlakiVille for a taste of Greece, Royal Falafel has their amazing falafel and the kathi rolls at Royal Haveli are a delicious Indian street food. Of course, Canadian favourites can also be found there with ice cream, fries, funnel cakes and waffles.
OLG’s Mainstage will feature music from many places including Sweden and Mexico. Returning are Grenville Pinto, the Neema Children’s choir and the Imbayakunas. New this year are performances on Saturday afternoon from the Jalgua Peace Festival, Borelson and local Indigenous artist Jonathan Maracle who have been internationally acclaimed for their work. For the fun, join the international DJ dance parties on Friday and Saturday evening, and classic favourites on Sunday afternoon with the Trilogy tribute to The Doors, Pink Floyd & Led Zeppelin followed by “Bad to the Bone” a tribute to George Thorogood.
Throughout the park you’ll see new buskers along with traditional favourites and as always, there will be balloon-twisting, face-painting and craft activities. Canine Watersports is back on the hill along with Doglovers Days lure course (bring your dog for $5). Friday brings the Beehive Collective who’ll offer an amazing artistic journey through the history of the Americas (a must see for people of all ages) and Creative Club takes building blocks to a whole new level.
Kouri’s Copters is back for helicopter rides Friday & Saturday.
The climbing wall will be at the main entrance on Saturday & Sunday.
Free shuttles will be provided from the downtown terminal.
Onsite parking is $5. Volunteers appreciate the donation that supports their organizations and the event.
