There has been another fraudulent apartment scam, this time in Quinte West.
On Monday, officers received a report of an online scam.
A person tried renting an apartment in Trenton, after seeing a post on an online platform.
$3,500 was e-transferred and it was later found out that the apartment did not exist.
Here is a list of tips from Quinte West OPP on what to do when buying online:
- Pump the brakes and ask more questions
- Ask for credentials
- Listen to the inner voice that says “this doesn’t sound right”
- Be wary of any request for cash or cryptocurrency
- Be cautious of the sense of urgency
- Do not be rushed into sending money
