The sewers under West Mary Street in Picton are due for an upgrade.
Prince Edward County Council approved a project to overhaul the sanitary sewer system under West Mary Street and install a higher capacity system during their Tuesday council meeting.
The current sewer system in the area is functional, but is nearing its full capacity and leaving it in place without upgrades will prevent construction of new structures or developments that require additional sewer capacity.
The work will also pass under part of Ontario Street and Rotary Park.
A tender for the project was awarded to Drew Harrison Haulage Ltd. for a cost of $1,886,502.48 plus applicable taxes.
A second bid was received for the project, from QBT Excavating Services Ltd, for over $3,000,000 and was declined.
