Northumberland area birdwatchers identified a record-breaking number of species during the Northumberland Land Trust’s 15th annual birding marathon.
Northumberland News reports that during the charity fundraiser, birdwatchers identified 150 different species of local birds on the land trust’s 13 nature reserves.
The previous year’s event saw 132 different species of birds.
Donors to the fundraiser guess how many species will be spotted and the winner receives a bottle of maple syrup. This year’s winner was Richard Girardin, whose guess of 140 was the closest to the final total spotted.
