A Scarborough man has been sentenced to eight years in jail for sexually assaulting a Quinte area teenager he met on Snapchat.
Forty-year-old Attaul Minan was found guilty earlier this year of sexual assault, sexual interference and assault bodily harm.
Minan met the 15-year-old girl through social media and during a three-day period in March 2021, drove to Belleville and took her to Peel Region where he plied her with drugs and alcohol and sexually assaulted her in various hotel rooms.
In one violent assault he broke her finger.
The victim was able to escape and sought assistance at a nearby business.
Minan returned to Belleville a couple of weeks later and took the victim to a local hotel room where he sexually assaulted and choked her.
Belleville police were alerted she may be with him and he was arrested at the hotel.
Monday, Justice Krysten Musczynski sentenced Minan to 7 years and 113 days from today, giving him credit for 252 days of pre-trial custody.
He is prohibited from contacting the girl or her family, is subject to a lifetime weapons prohibition, sexual offender registry order and DNA databanking order.
