Site preparation work continues at the former fairgrounds property in west end Belleville.
At its meeting Tuesday, city council will be asked to approve an extra environmental assessment for part of the property that has been found to be contaminated by toxic chemicals.
Those chemicals spread underground to the site from the adjacent former Nortel, or Northern Electric, plant.
The $63,520 tender from Cambium Inc. will be for extra groundwater monitoring on the property where the contamination has been located.
Meanwhile, the city will seek provincial approval to begin development work on the rest of the land.
Plans for the fairgrounds include a new YMCA Centre for Life, an upgraded curling club, and residential and commercial uses.
