The Victoria Day long weekend is the unofficial start of summer and the official opening of the boating season – at least along the Trent-Severn Waterway.
The Waterway, a 386 km system connecting Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay, opens for the season Friday morning at 9 a.m.
There are 45 locks along the way, starting at Trenton and ending at Port Severn.
From Friday through the holiday Monday, lockstations will be open from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m
Hours from May 22 to June 18 are 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday to Sunday.
Full summer hours begin June 19 and run through September 4 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday to Sunday as well as on Canada Day (July 1), the Civic Holiday (August 7), and Labour Day (September 4).
After Labour Day, lockstation hours are 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday as well as on Thanksgiving (October 9) which is the last day of the season.
