An expansion is in the works for Wander the Resort, a collection of resort cabins in Prince Edward County.
During Wednesday’s Planning and Development Committee meeting, council members discussed a request to rezone the resort lands in order to allow a new spa and event venue to be constructed on the property, and to increase the number of cabins on the property to 18.
The property currently consists of 10 cabins, with a separate main clubhouse that includes a bar, offices, and required maintenance facilities.
During a report to the committee, city staff included their own recommendations, including a capacity limit of 248 people, a minimum of 62 parking spaces on site, and that water and sewage plans for the facility be approved by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks.
Councillor Bill Roberts supported the rezoning, commenting on the resort’s early success during difficult times and pushing to support local entrepreneurs.
“We’ve seen, as Councillor Braney noted, many supportive comments from neighbours,” said Roberts. “I think it’s important for us to encourage young entrepreneurs in The County, not frustrate them.”
The request was approved after some debate, and will be forwarded to the next council session for final approval.
