This is a big year for the Glanmore National Historic Site in Belleville.
Glanmore is celebrating its 50th anniversary year as a community museum and 140th anniversary since construction of the historic house.
To celebrate, Glanmore will be open with free admission from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on International Museum Day, Thursday.
This will also serve as the formal launch of Glanmore’s new 50th anniversary project, 1973: The Immersive Exhibition.
Danielle McMahon-Jones is the museum’s Exhibit Development Coordinator.
“And as a way to celebrate our fiftieth anniversary, we thought that we would do a fun display, ah, bringing people back 50 years ago. Since when they come top visit the museum on a regular day they’re brought back 140 years ago to 1883. You kind of get the best of both of our anniversaries this year when you come in.”
The museum’s basement level has been transformed into a completely interactive den and kitchen where visitors will be transported back to 1973. Visitors can touch objects, listen to records from the era, view television clips and commercials, play games, and more.
A virtual version of the exhibit will be available for those who cannot physically access the basement level.
1973: The Immersive Exhibition will be on display at Glanmore until early 2024.
