Belleville council agrees with a Guelph area community that the provincial government ought to start cleaning up trash littering the sides of Highway 401.
Council supported a resolution by the Township of Puslinch being circulated province-wide. Councillor Chris Malette said he’s been seeing more trash along the 401 with a lot of it consisting of plastics, a confirmed threat to the environment.
“One of the things we can do is insist that…….let’s make summer jobs for students, get ’em out on the 401 cleaning up the 401. It’s a simple initiative.”
Malette added no one wanted a major Canadian highway to become as messy as those found in the U.S.
