Traffic is very slow going this morning on Old Highway 2 in the area of CFB Trenton.
Many civilians on the base are members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada and the
union began a nationwide strike after midnight.
Picketers outside the base are delaying vehicles a little as they try to enter.
Tens of thousands of federal public servants are now on strike for more money and clarity around remote work arrangements.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada told a news conference in Ottawa that picket lines would be going up at more than 250 locations across the country overnight including at 8 Wing Trenton and possibly outside local Service Canada and MPs’ offices.
The main stumbling block in negotiations has been wages.
Both the union and the government have said a walkout would cause delays or disruptions to a number of federal services, including tax filing, Employment Insurance, immigration and passport applications.
