Prince Edward County has received a grant to install two electric vehicle chargers.
Six Level 2 chargers will be installed at the Wellington and District Community Centre and Prince Edward Community Centre.
The $99,674 in grant funding will cover 100 per cent of the project budget, including equipment, installation, site prep/restoration and municipal labour.
The County is one of seven communities to receive the Charged for Change grant through Aviva Canada.
The initiative aims to bring chargers to under-served communities that lack EV infrastructure.
The Township of Manitouwadge, Town of Thessalon, Municipality of East Ferris, Township of Essa, Township of Selwyn and Town of Pelham are also recipients.
Mayor Steve Ferguson says the lack of charging infrastructure is often a source of frustration for people visiting the County and the addition of the chargers helps meet their climate and sustainability goals.
The cost to charge at the public stations has not yet been determined.
The municipality is currently exploring options to install several publicly accessible DC Fast (Level 3) chargers and anticipates releasing a Request for Proposals next month.
