The Belleville Senators smashed the Toronto Marlies 7-2 on Saturday afternoon.
Cole Reinhardt, Roby Jarventie, Egor Sokolov, Maxence Guenette, Ridly Greig, Rourke Chartier, and Jake Lucchini all scored for the Senators.
The Senators opened up scoring early in the first period and claimed three goals without letting the Marlies get on the board at all in the first frame.
During the second, the Senators extended their lead with two more goals, forcing the Marlies to change goaltenders. The Marlies came back strong and managed to secure a single goal, getting themselves on the scoreboard before the frame ended.
Going into the third the Marlies scored a second time, but the Senators came back hard and took two more points to extend their lead and bring home the win.
Belleville Senators interim head coach David Bell said the team push each other to play better as a group.
“It’s the guys in the room. This coaching staff doesn’t play a shift. They go over the boards, they push each other, they hold each other accountable, and they’ve gotten some results. So it’s a credit to the leadership group,” said Bell.
The Senators face the Marlies again on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m., for their final game of the season.
