Belleville council has directed the mayor to immediately write to the provincial government asking it to speed up environmental approvals for Farnham Road’s reconstruction.
The $10.5 million project was approved in last year’s capital budget but has been delayed for several reasons with the most important being that the storm and wastewater regulations were made stricter after the city’s design work was completed.
The Manager of Environmental Services Perry DeCola described the situation as “being stuck between a rock and a hard place.”
Councillor Paul Carr had this to say.
“We have the dog park there now with pedestrians wanting to use that road and it’s not built for it so we have to build that infrastructure for the community that exists today and I’m getting tired of the province delaying on their end.”
The project cannot proceed without approvals and would take over a year to complete after approvals are given.
