Trenton Golden Hawks forward Matt Cato has committed to play for the University of Vermont where he will become a member of the Catamounts.
It has been quite a season for Cato. From being tied for top ten in goals in the OJHL, to dominating the World Junior A Challenge, where he led Team Canada East to a silver medal, to committing to his post-secondary institution.
Cato said, “After I returned from the World Junior A Challenge, my family and I talked with some schools during the Christmas break.” He continued, “There was so much about that program and the school and the community I liked. Burlington Vermont is beautiful. I know a few NCAA players who talked highly of it as well. They could not say enough good things about it.”
“As far as the program I will take, I am still discussing that with family and friends and looking over what is available.”
Cato says, “This was not something I was expecting until next year, it is surreal it is happening so soon.”
Matt Cato is not the only player for Trenton who has committed to a Division 1 school. Captain Mitch LaFay will be attending the University of Alaska-Anchorage for the 2022-23 school year.
