He was a fixture at Belleville Bulls games for 25 years and you always knew he was there every time a Belleville goal was scored. Jonny Wilson, better known as the “Cymbal Man,” passed away last night (Tuesday) at the age of 80.
Johnny would descend the stairs at the Yardmen Arena crashing his cymbals while wearing a different costume every game.
Wilson’s daughter Angie says he had over 200 costumes filling every closet in the house.
While Wilson was a regular at Bulls games he would also make appearances in Wellington and Trenton particularly after the Bulls moved to Hamilton in 2015.
Wilson is retired after a long career as a residential counsellor and supervisor at Belleville’s Sir James Whitney and Sagonaska Schools. He is survived by daughters Angie and Renee.
The funeral will be held on Monday January 2nd at St. Michael’s Church in Belleville. It will be followed by an open house from Noon until 4 o’clock at the Ramada Inn in Belleville.
