Quinte News continues to look back at the year that was.
We talked with the former Reeve of Tyendinaga Township Rick Phillips about his final year in politics, as it relates to the municipality.
Phillips says he grateful for his time in politics.
“First of all I’d like to thank the township for everything they’ve done for me over the last few years supporting me.”
Phillip says he is proud that he is leaving while the municipality is in a very good position.
He says one of the largest challenges Tyendinaga Township faced was staffing.
“We’ve lost some very valuable people to retirement, etc. We’ve went through the process and in the last year, year and a half we’ve hired excellent staff in pretty well all sectors of our township. Whether it be our CAO, treasurer, others, our roads, our library, whatever.”
He sees another large challenge from the past 12 months, that will continue into 2023.
“We’re all struggling to try to keep up with the programs that we want to be able to provide. In some cases because of funding we’re not able to. We have to keep plugging at our partners to provide more funding for us to be able to do what we have to do.”
