Royal Canadian Air Force 429 Transport Squadron, based at 8 Wing Trenton, has completed a record-breaking fuel delivery to Canadian Forces Station Alert.
The delivery, as part of Operation Boxtop, brought over a million litres of fuel to the northern community. The delivery was completed using the Globemaster III transport plane, and also involved transporting international observers to the mission.
The mission involved testing hot defuelling, which is where the fuel cargo is pumped out of the plane while its engines are still running.
Located at the northeastern tip of Ellesmere Island in Nunavut, Alert is the northernmost place in the world that is inhabited all year long.
