Round three of the Hasty P Cup goes to the Wellington Dukes. Ryan Smith scored at 1:28 of overtime to give the Dukes a 2-1 win and a 2-1 lead over the Trenton Golden Hawks in the five-game series. Smith also had an assist.
Dukes goaltender Jacob Osborne was a difference maker as Trenton outshot Wellington 36-26.
Ethan Sullivan also scored for the Dukes while Adam OMarra replied for Trenton.
All three games between the Quinte rivals have been decided by one goal.
The Dukes and G-Hawks are tied for third place in the OJHL’s South-East Conference with 49 points, however, Wellington has four games in hand.
Trenton has been the busiest team in the league with 38 games played. They only have 15 games left when they return after a three-week break on January 7.
The Dukes host Markham on Tuesday night in their final game before the break.
