It was a shootout in every sense of the word, literally and figuratively, as the Belleville Senators outlasted the Cleveland Monsters 8-7 at CAA Arena.
The B-Sens scored on all three of their shootout chances where Egor Sokolov was credited with the winner.
Seven different players scored for Belleville including captain Dillon Hetherington whose short handed goal late in the third period forced the game to overtime. Belleville’s special teams were the difference in the game. Along with the “shorty,” the Sens scored three on the power play.
The B-Sens scored three on the power play.
Ridley Greig scored a goal and two assists. Sokolov also scored in regulation as did Rourke Chartier, Viktor Lodin, Cole Cassels and Philippe Daoust.
The win gives Belleville a 6-6-1 record in the AHL North Division. Tomorrow night (Friday) they host the division-leading Toronto Marlies.
