After a three-year absence due to COVID, local athletes were able to compete for various levels of Black Belt with the Canadian Jiu Jitsu Council.
Dave Dalley earned his 5th degree belt and Dr. Wayne Lord his 4th. Both compete with the Bancroft Martial Arts Club.
Three athletes from the 8 Wing Trenton Martial Arts club won upgraded black belts.
Jessye Nielsen and Shontell Whalen received their 4th degree while Tara Oliver received her 2nd.
Jeff Weese, a student of Bev and Bob Leonard won his first degree black belt while Spencer Griffen of Odessa received his first.
Two local instructors are permanent members of the Canadian Jiu Jitsu Council grading board.
Robert Walther is the president and Bev Leonard is a council director.
