The new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital could feature a sustainable and environmentally friendly heating and cooling system.
Deep holes are now being drilled to see if the ground at the new hospital site will allow for a “closed loop” geothermal heating and cooling system.
Test holes are being drilled down 500 feet. In a “closed loop” geothermal system, heat stored in the rock underground would be transferred up to the surface by plastic pipes.
Should the testing be viable, a geothermal system will be part of the tendering process for the new hospital in Picton.
