Despite the widespread coverage in both traditional and social media locally, very few operators of short term accommodations have stepped up and become licensed by the city.
Manager of Economic Development and Strategic Initiatives Karen Poste told the Economic and Destination Development Committee that only 30 STAs had been in contact with the city and just six had been licensed so far.
Poste says her department is partnering with the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board and more action is coming to get STAs inspected and licensed.
“We’re going to start proactively reaching out to those (STAs) that we’re aware of and we’re going to work with a third party to try and identify other STAs in the community and directly reach out to them and get compliance.”
It’s estimated that between 150 and 200 short term accommodations businesses are located in Belleville.
