Statistics Canada says the unemployment rate in July was 4.9%, the same historic low reached in June.
The economy recorded its second consecutive month of job losses, with 31,000 fewer jobs.
Locally, the unemployment rate in the Belleville Census Metropolitan Area rose more than 1.5%.
The rate went from 2% in June to 3.6% last month.
That is still more than 5% lower than July 2021.
The Belleville CMA includes Belleville, Quinte West, Tyendinaga/Deseronto, and Stirling-Rawdon.
