Belleville’s Planning Advisory Committee is recommending city council approve rezoning allowing another Habitat for Humanity home to be built.
The rezoning approved by the committee will allow a two-storey duplex to be constructed at 639 Sidney Street between Tracey Street and Bell Boulevard.
The property is owned by Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward-Hastings
The Planning Advisory Committee also recommended rezoning of property, paving the way for a two-storey 6-plex apartment building at 187 Stanley Street near the CN Belleville rail yard on Station Street.
Should council approve the rezoning, the owner of the property would have to satisfy conditions laid out by CN Rail regarding noise as the apartment building will be within 300 metres of the rail yard, which is in contravention of the Official Plan’s Sensitive Land Use policy.
The committee recommends adjusting the policy to allow the six-plex, as apartments are badly needed and it will be on vacant land already zoned for residential.
