Brighton could soon be joining Belleville, Quinte West, and Prince Edward County in collecting a tax from users of local hotels, motels and short-term accommodation such as bed and breakfast businesses.
At its meeting Monday night council will decide whether or not to approve a 5% Municipal Accommodation Tax which is expected to generate around $250,000 a year when fully implemented.
The money collected could only be used for tourism promotion and half of it must be shared with other tourism marketing organizations such as the Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board.
